Gone for a swim

So, I was at this wedding and the ceremony went fabulously and we had moved on to the reception spot. We were taking photos of the lovely bride and groom over on the boat dock near the club and right as we get on the dock my flash literally jumps right off my camera and into Lake Norman! I stood there is shock for a bit. I couldn't tell how deep it was right there, but then the bubbles cleared and it was about 3 or 4 feet down. The awesome groom helped anchor me and I got into the water to fish it out. I got him out, but but he was definitely water-logged! Good thing for back-ups!!! The wedding finished up beautifully, I just didn't know the fate of my flash friend. You see, this is the same flash that tried to commit suicide about a month before this wedding by falling off a shelf onto a tile floor... Here's what he looked like the next morning...
Matt suggested that I place it in a warm oven to help speed up the drying out process... SO, I do as he suggests and stick it in the oven. Our oven's lowest setting is 170 degrees, so I left the door open cause I didn't want to melt it...
I cycled turning the oven on for an hour or so and then off for an hour or so for a couple days til I was sure (well, pretty sure) that there was no more water left inside. I didn't want it to short circuit when I put new batteries in and turn it on. I got my nerves up and put the batteries in and turned it on and low and behold it did turn on and it worked!!!! SO relieved! I have to keep my eye on this guy a little more carefully in the future.

I can't believe how many suicidal this guy is. Who knew life as photo equipment was so traumatizing?
